Abstract

Following one short introduction, referring to the origin, purpose and general condictions ascribed to mating nuclei, the article discuss its importance and wheight in the cost of production of queen honey bees. Reviewing factors that affect the performance of the main general types of mating nuclei the owrk include: age of the worker bees, nucleus population, period of orfanization, age of the introduced virgin queen, type of local vegetation, design and size of the nucleus shell (box), nectar flow, season, presence and age of brood (imature individuals), management and bee breed.
