Abstract

Sixty piglets weaned at the 28th day with an average weight of 8.37 kg were used in a complete randomized block design with two treatments (Initial rations consisting either ground dry corn grain or silage of ground high moisture corn grain- Cross breed C333B) and 10 replicates. The experimental period was 35 days. The high moisture grain silage improved (P< 0.05) feed:gain ratio during the 0 -17 post–weaning period ( 1.37x 1.49), as well as daily weight gain, feed:gain ratio during the 18 to 35 (862 x 779 g/d and 1.61 x 1.71) and 0 -35 ( 632 x 573 g/d and 1.53 x 1.64) days of the initial phase. Diarrhea incidence proportion of moderate type in the post – weaning early 14 days was lower (P< 0.05) in piglets fed silage (0.058 x 0.154). High moisture grain corn silage can replaces advantageously dried corn in initial piglets ration.
