Abstract

The trial was carried out in the Estação Experimental de Zootecnia de Gália, Instituto de Zootecnia, SAA, State of São Paulo, Brazil. Two mulberry cultivars (IZ 56/4 and Korin) were compared in four utilization systems (1, 2, 3 and 4), according to an experimental of completely randomized design, with the treatments in the factorial scheme and five replications. The study aimed to evaluate the biological aspects and the cocoon production characteristics of silkworm (Bombyx mori L.). For the variables live weight of larvae, weight gain of larvae and chrysalis weight, the larvae fed with the Korin cultivar presented better performance. When it was utilized the IZ 56/4 cultivar, heavier cocoons were obteined for the larvae that received, in the 4o and 5o ínstar, leaves with 13 weeks of vegetative development (system 3).
