Abstract

The present greenhouse pot experiment was conducted at Instituto de Zootecnia - Nova Odessa, SP, using a soil classified as €œPodzolizado de Lins e Marilia variaço Marilia€, brought from two Counties of the State of São Paulo (São José do Rio Preto and Andradina). It was studied the effect of several fertilizer treatments upon the dry matter yield and nitrogen fixation by Centrosema pubescens Benth. The treatments were: 1: check; 2: P only;3:P+Ca:4:3 +S:5:4+K;6:5+Mg 7:6+Fe8:6+Mnand9:6+FeMnBCuZnMo. These treatments were set in Randomized Block Design with four replications. The first harvest was held 47 days after planting and the second one 27 day after the first. The results of the first harvest showed that P is the most limiting factor for the establishment of Centro in the soils studied, because only treatment one (check) was significantly different from the others. In the regrowth, centro showed diverse behavior with respect to the treatments applied in the soils from the two places. On the soil from Andradina there was no statistical differences among treatments for dry matter yield and nitrogen fixation. The regrowth of centro in the soil brought from So José do Rio Preto, also did not show significant effect from the application of the micronutrients, but the application of the micronutrients all together was responsible for a great increase in the nitrogen fixation by centro as measured by the N percentage and total nitrogen per pot. Iron application (treatment 7) showed a negative effect in decreasing dry matter yield. nodulation and nitrogen fixation in this soil.
