Aspects of the reproductive efficiency in Guzerá cattle

Abstract

In this paper it was studied the reproductive life of 200 heifer calves born during the period from 1952 to 1962. Only 143 females, out of the 200, gave at least one calf; from the others 57, 27 died before first parturition; 19 were sold, and 11 were removed from the experimental place. The age at first calving was 46.7 ± 4 months. The calving interval was 16.1 ± 2 months in 387 observations. An the fertility was 66.3% . Cows had a lifetime average of 69.5 months with 3.7 calves per dam.
