Abstract

The experiment was carried out at the Instituto de Zootecnia, Nova Odessa, State of São Paulo, Brazil, from December, 1981 to March, 1982. The objective of this work was to compare susceptible and non susceptible pigs to the halothane as to performance. Twenty-six barrows were used, 13 susceptible and 13 non susceptible, with 70 days of age mean live weight of 25.8 kg at the beginning and 94.3 kg at the end of the experiment. The susceptible pigs presented better feed conversion during the growth period (P < 0.05), finishing period and total trial (P < 0.01). As to weight gain and ration intake there was no difference (P > 0.05) between the two groups of pigs.
