Natural hybrids of mulberry-tree

Abstract

This trial was carried out at the Unidade Experimental de Sericicultura de Limeira, State of So Paulo, Brazil, in the period 1966€”1978, with the finality to determined among 300 natural hybrids studied which are the best hybrids under the sericultural point of view. From each natural hybrid it were obtained 50 cuttings that were planted in lines distanced of 1 .00m x 0.20m. From these hybrids, it was cropped ten branches in three consecutive years, for study. For the reproduction test by mean of cuttings it was adopted the randomized blocks design. The selection was made by elimination of the hybrids that presented one or more negative characteres. The natural hybrids that presented the best characteres were: IZ.3; 1Z5; IZ.1O; lZ.14; IZ.18; lZ.26; IZ.27; IZ.29; IZ.30; IZ.341Z.37; IZ.40; IZ.43; IZ.57 and IZ.64.
