Abstract

Dehydrated sugar cane yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisae) was fed to twelve crossbred (European x Zebu) lactating dairy cows, as a partial and total substitute for cottonseed oil meal, in concentrates calculated to be isoproteic 115.8% crude protein and 73.0% total digestible nutrients) and iso-caloric. Cows were maintained in pasture of mature Guinea grass (Pan,cummaximum Jacq.) and ted 0.330kgconcentrate per kg of milk produced. Milking was performed once a day at 5:00A.M. A complete Switchback design for four treatments, three sequences and three periods was followed. No statistical differences among treatments were detected; so, it can be concluded that dehydrated sugar cane yeast is a good ingredient in rations for lactating dairy cows.
