Abstract

Forty Canchim and crossbred Canchim steers, 24 months old, weighing 374 kg in the beginning of the experimental period, were confined during 98 days (14 days of adaptation). The following concentrates were compared: A = 97% ground sorghum heads + 3% de urea); B = 65% ground sorghum heads + 35% grain soybean in natura; C = 49% ground sorghum heads + 46% poultry litter + 5% soybean meal; D = 80% ground sorghum heads + 20% soybean meal. The roughage consisted of Elephant grass. The trial was carried out during the dry months (June-September) of 1986. The experimental design was completly randomized, with 4 treatments and 10 replications. Average daily weight gains were: A= 1,050 kg; B= 1,100 kg; C = 1,110 kg/head and D = 1,130 kg. No significant differences in live weight gains were observed between treatments, but soybean meal treatment showed a tendency of better results. The treatments with urea and poultry litter were economically more advantageous). In the evaluation of the carcass was observed a result of good quality for the intensive beef production.
