Abstract

Sugar cane aerobically fermented (sacharina) was fed to 32(16 male, l6 female) nine months old nubian goats with mean initial liveweigth of 22.3 kg. The animaIs were individually fed during 90 days a 12% CP diet of 49% coast cross hay (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers) and 51 % of concentrate (corn and cotton seed meal which were replaced by 0, 25,50 and 75% of sacharina). The sacharina had 84.02 % DM, 2.81% total-N, 0.41% protein-N and 28.14% CF. The higher the level of sacharina was in the diet the lower the daily liveweight gains were (P< 0.01). The dry matter intake was not different (P> 0.05) between treatments and was higher for males (P< 0.05). The higher the sacharina intake was the higher the feed conversion was (P< 0.01). The decreasing performance observed was due, probably, to the low content in true-protein and high CF values of the sacharina used.
