Abstract

Four hundred and senventy eigth goat parturitions from the Anglonubian breed and 112 from the Moxoto breed were analyzed. The average weight of simple birth Anglonubian kids were 3.28 and 3.04kg, and for twins, 2.83 and 2.62kg, respectively, for male and females. The birth weight of simple birth for Moxoto kids were 2.22 and 2.17kg and 2.13 and 1.93 kg for twins, respectively for male and females. The birth weight in the Anglonubian breed was influenced (P< 0.01) by the kids sex, goat age, birth type (simple or multiple) and year. In the Moxoto breed, none of these factors influenced the birth weight. In the Anglonubian goats, 201 multiple parturitions (42.1%) occurred, while 12 multiple parturitions (10.7%) occurred in the Moxoto breed. The Weimberg method showed that the proportion of twin parturitions of monozigotic origin the Anglonubian breed is 3.02%.
