Abstract

The essay was carried out at Instituto de Zootecnia, Nova Odessa, SP, Brazil Ten forage grasses were tested under two fertilization levels. It was used three replications per treatment. Data of establishment, soil coverture, persistance, plant height, position of apical meristem, frost and drought tolerance, dry matter production and crude protein percentage were recorded. Conclusions are that Narok and Splendida setarias could be used where frosts ocurrence are commun. By the other hand, Andropogon could be used under drought conditions. The best palatability was presented by Setaria species.
