Abstract

The experiment was carried out at Instituto de Zootecnia, Nova Odessa, SP. The treatments were arranged in randomized blocks to evaluate the nutritive value of silages from AG 2002 and BR 506 sorghums, prepared in milky grain, dough grain and hard gram stages of maturity. It was used 18 castrated male sheep 18 months old. It was determined the voluntary intake during 15 days, followed by an adjustment period of 4 days, when the animals received the daily amount of silage determined in the previous period. The collection period was of 5 days. During the experiment the animals were fed single silage supplemented with mineral salt and water. The average percentage of total digestible nutrients were similar for the two sorghums (62.46 and 62.52%) and there was no diferences for silages in milky, dough and hard grain stages of maturity. Dry matter and total digestible nutrients intakes of silage from AG 2002 and BR 506 sorghums were higger when prepared in the dough and hard grain stages (520 and 488g/animal/day and 335 and 309g/animal/day, respectively).
