Abstract

Ten forage legumes were studied under poor drainage soil conditions. It was observed the germination, initial development, flowering, seed setting, plant ground cover and the relative acceptability by steers. The evolution (for 2 years) of the stand conditions were evaluated. Dry matter, crude protein and mineral contents of the leaves were determined. It was concluded that Pueraria, Aeschynomene, Calopogonium and Centrosema showed conditions to persist. Sulfur was the only one mineral that would be deficient for the nutrition of young dairy heifers.
