Abstract

The objetive of this trial was to evaluate methods for the estabilishment of grass-legume pastures. Two associations were tested: Brachiaria decumbens plus Macrotyloma axillare and Brachiaria brizantha plus the same legume. The treatments were: 1. seeding at the same time and fertilizing both plants; 2. As 1, but fertilizing only the legume; 3. seeding the legume some time before the grass and fertilizing both plants; 4. As 3, but fertilizing only the legume. Dry matter availability and visual estimates of percentage of participation of the plants were determined. Cows were allowed to graze the area leniently. After 22 months there was no diferences between treatments showing low persistence of the legume and strong agressiveness of the grasses.
