Abstract

The efficiency of an embryo transfer program was evaluated with sheep on farm conditions. After a 12 days medroxiprogesterone intravaginal devise treatment for oestrus sincronization, ten Ideal ewes were superovulated with HMG (Human Menopausic Gonadotrophin) or PMSG (Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotrophin), five in each treatment. Seven days after the matting, the embryos were cirurgically recovered. The following mean results were observed per donor: 8.1 corpora lutea, 1.4 follicles, and 4.8 total embryos from which 2.1 were of good quality. The rate of good embryos from the HMG treatment was greater than the PMSG treatment (62.5% and 17.8%, respectively). Seven crossbred Suffolk ewes received cirurgically one or two embryos from which four (57.1%) pregnancies were obtained.
