Abstract

The present work was carried out in experimental area of Departamento de Entomologia of E.S.A. €œLuiz de Queiroz€, Piracicaba-SP, with the objective to check different methods used in pollination tests to closing the acess of insects to some flowers. It was run a trial comparing three sunflower cultivars: Anhandy, Contisol and Uruguai, under three flower isolation methods: bagging the flowers with gauze bags, bagging the flowers with paraffin paper bags and covering the plants (13 to 15) with cages, with net sides. The freely visited flowers were considered as control. The trial employed a completely randomized design with ten replications, in a split-plot arrangement design. The cultivars were the plots and the isolation methods the subplots. We can conclude, by the production data, that the gauze bags isn€™t an indicated method to obstruct the insect visitation, because they permite the acess of long-tongue bees to the flowers. This admits the possibility of an error in the conclusions.
