Abstract

The present study was conducted in Lageado Farm, of the Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science College and in the Agriculture College, both belonging to the Botucatu Campus, UNESP. Thirty-six ram lambs were used, from single parturition’s, belonging to two different genotypes: 18 Corriedales and 18 Ile de France x Corriedale crossbreeds, which were slaughtered with 30 kg of live weight. The aim was to evaluate the effect of the genotype of lambs finished in feedlot in the following qualitative characteristics: pH, water-holding capacity, color, collagen concentration, flavor, off-flavor, aroma, off-aroma, tenderness, juiciness, fatty acid composition and chemical composition of meat. The results revealed no differences (P>0.05) between genotypes in any of the traits. On the other hand, the data showed that purebreds and crossbreeds lambs had meat quality adequate to consumer market.
