Abstract

A trial was carried out in order to detect any differences in agressiveness showed by bees inspected with the use of smokes from some commom fuels: rotten wood, hardwood shavings, burlap soiled with mineral lubricants and, besides, wool. Thirty six bee hives were used, in a randomized block design. The best result was given by hardwood shavings, followed by rotten wood, burlap with mineral lubricants and wool. Statistical analysis showed significant differences between hardwood shavings and rotten wood and the other two fuels.
