Abstract

Blood samples from 40 Caracu of Nova Odessa, State of São Paulo, Brazil, were typed were hemolytic tests for 10 systems plus some unassigned factors. The analysis of the B system, especially, revealed a dose relationship with the €œTexas€ Longhorn, Argentine Criollo, and Mexican Creole-like feral cattle. Ten of the 23 B phenogroups of Caracu were new, 9 were held in common with American Longhorn cattle, and only 3 were already known in other European-American breeds. The S system was unique among cattle beeds in lacking two phenogroups usually present and in the high frequency of factor U1. Additional D subtypes were noted in the A system.
