Abstract

The present work was carried out at Pindamonhangaba county, State of São Paulo, with the objective of verifying if the production of the common bean, cultivar Carioquinha IAC-80 can be increased by Africanized bees (Apis mellifera L.) pollination. It has, also the aim of determining the best methodology to be used in pollination tests of common bean. It was concluded: 1- the honey bees only visit the common bean flowers when forced to it, either when they are confined by pollination cages or when they have no other flowers to visit in the same period, 2- the honey bee visits do not cause a significant increase in the common bean production and, 3- the pollination cages are not indicated for tests which need the bean plants be isolated.
