Abstract

Multivariate statistical methods were used to evaluate morphometric patterns of honey bee (Apis mellifera L.) queens obtained from larvae of different ages (12, 24, 36 and 48 hours). Significant differences between age groups were found for all characters analysed and, although intercaste individuals were not produced (due to the short age interval), there is a straight nonlinear relationship between multivariate morphometric patterns (in terms of size and shape variation) and age.
