Abstract

Thirty mediterranean buffaloes were subjected to superovulation using folliclestimulating hormone (FSH-P) or pregnant mare serum gonadotrophin (PMSG). The dosage used was 36 mg of FSH-P (n = 15) and 2500 U.1. of PMSG (n =15). Only 40% of the treated animais responded to the treatments with more than 2 corpus luteum. The rate of positive responses of the treatment PMSG was of 53.3% while the rate of the FSH-P treatment was 26.6% (P <0.01). The cominon factor of both treatments was the great variability of ovarian response and the low recovery rate of embryos, considering the number of corpus luteum determined in situ and by rectal palpation. Eight embryos were recovered nonsurgically from five animais showing posirive response and four embryos from three female with one or two corpus luteuin.
