Abstract

Forty eight crossbreed cows (holstein X zebu) were randomly assigned to one of four groups: A) control; B) oral 5 mg selenium suplemented; C) oral 500 UI vitamin E supplemented and D) oral 5 mg selenium plus 500 UI vitamin E supplemented. Treatments started one month before parturition. Blood samples were collected from cows one month before and at calving and from calves after birth. It was concluded the cows witch received vitamin E alone did not differ from the vitamin E and selenium group, but had less service per conception than the selenium alone and the control group.
